The Graveminder, by Melissa Marr (author of the Wicked Lovely series) is best read on a bright sunny day preferably by a pool or on the beach. It's scary, but not too scary, just scary enough to raise goosebumps on your arms. Rebekkah Barrow, the main character, has always wondered why her grandmother, Maylene, performed the same unusual ritual at each person's funeral in Claysville. For each funeral, Maylene took three sips from a silver flask and spoke the words: "Sleep well, and stay where I put you."
When Maylene is murdered, Rebekkah returns to Claysville and tries to solve the mystery of who murdered Maylene. Along the way she discovers the town's deal with Mr. D. Mr. D is not the devil, but he is death and the deal with him is definitely a Faustian one.
My only complaint with this novel was the long-drawn out complicated relationship between Rebekkah and Bryon. Rebekkah, honey, stop worrying if you and Bryon are meant to be together because of destiny or your own free will. When the possibilities of a relationship are that good, quite frankly, it just doesn't matter.
If you decide to read this novel, I think you'll enjoy it.
