Legendary, the sequel to Caraval, by Stephanie Garber is a rare thing. It is a sequel that is just as good as the original. Legendary is told from the point of view of Tella, Scarlett's sister. At first I wasn't sure if I would like the book, because in the first book Tella is portrayed as flighty and frivolous. But here, she is anything but. Her goal is to find her mother and a mysterious friend has written to her saying that he can help her. But in order to receive his help, she must find out Legend's identity - a task that seems impossible to accomplish.
The cast of characters also includes Dante, a man she is falling in love with although she convinces herself that she isn't; Jack, the Prince of Hearts, a cruel Fate who kills everyone he kisses except for his one true love; and the mysterious Legend.
Tella finds out that her mother is trapped in a deck of cursed cards with the Fates, even though she herself is not a Fate. A long time ago, the Fates ruled as gods and imprisoned people in cards and turned people into stone statues. Tella faces a difficult decision - should she tell Jack Legend's identity? Jack will free all of the fates and her mother after he takes Legend's power. But what if Legend is her one true love? Can she bear to destroy him? Does she have the courage to find out who he is?
Read Legendary by Stephanie Garber to find out.
I can't wait for book #3!
